Dear people of Linton and surrounding areas,

Thanks so much for being part of the Living Sculptures art project at Edinburgh Reserve. It’s been great learning alongside you about endemic plants that are hyper local to the Linton area. The project has been creative and practical and its been wonderful to have people involved in the workshops and planting. There was great attendance at the Beginning Ceremony and the launch where we were fortunate to have Barry Gilson sing and tell stories as well as conduct Smoking Ceremonies.

Living Sculptures is a wonderful way to honour Wadawurrung Culture and Country and an important act of reparation for the Frontier Wars-Stolen land and way to bring future hope in the regeneration of the reserve. The signage with Barry’s stories and Kait’s artwork are a permanent reminder of the living culture of Wadawurrung people in the area.

The Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation Healthy Country Team did an amazing job of creating the Buniya (eel) and Kadak (large snake) garden beds. Some of the plants were propagated and grown at the teams nursery in Ballan and more than 300 came from Matt Powell at Ballarat Wild Plants who grows plants that are endemic to the area. Linton Primary School planted 171 plants and other community members planted the rest. A water tank has been installed on the gazebo at the Edinburgh Reserve so people can water the plants when they get thirsty as the weather warms up.

It has been really great to meet so many of you. Thanks for being such an important part of this project and we look forward to visiting again soon to see how the plants are growing.
